Hospital offers support groups for many medical areas, including eating disorders, breast cancer, Alzheimer's, bereavement, heart attacks and HIV/AIDS.
Hospital & Healthcare System is pleased to offer community health education programs and wellness resources to help you manage your personal health. This guide describes some of the prevention programs, educational classes and health services available to you at minimal or no charge. (all sessions free unless noted.)

Eating Disorders Support Group

This group provides support and information for individuals with anorexia or bulimia. Every Saturday from 11 a.m. to noon in the Hospital Eating Disorders Conference Room on the 5th floor.

Breast Cancer Support Group (In Treatment)

Education, support and sharing for women facing breast cancer. Meets every Thursday evening at the Hospital Olcott Center for Breast Health. For information


Breast Cancer Support Group (Post Treatment)

A safe place for expression, to learn about medical advancements, and be there for others who are frightened or have questions. This support group is co-sponsored by Beautiful Creations and Hospital. First Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the Hospital Radiation Oncology Center in the Southern Medical Park. For information.


Alzheimer's Resource Center Care Circle

Information, sharing and support for family and caregivers of people with Alzheimer's disease, other dementias, or stroke. Beginning November 2, the group will meet on Thursdays, between 3:30 and 5:30pm at the Alzheimer's Resource Center, 619 W. First Street. Meetings are flexible and informal; group members are welcome to stop in for whatever portion of the meeting they are able to attend.



Cardiopulmonary Rehab Support Group

This group provides emotional support and education for people with heart disease or pulmonary diseases such as asthma, emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Meets third Thursday of the month -- January through November -- in the Wegmiller Auditorium. Dinner (pay your own way) at 6 pm and meeting at 6:30 pm.


Mended Hearts

Support for heart surgery patients and their families by people who have undergone heart surgery.


United Ostomy Association, Chapter

Information and support for people before and after an ostomy. This group also seeks to promote a better understanding of people with ostomies by the general public. Second Monday of even months at 7 p.m. at the Center for Behavioral Health. Fee: $17.50 for one year, includes national "Ostomy Quarterly" magazine. Assistance fund available.


Adult Bereavement Support Groups

These groups are for bereaved adults to learn more about the grief process, to receive understanding and support, and to share coping strategies. Six-week sessions are offered several times a year by the Hospice department of Hospital.


Healing Hearts

These groups, offered by the Hospice department of Hospital are for children and teenagers (K-12 grade) who have lost someone they love. There is a combination of activity and quiet sharing and learning. Hospice of offers six-week sessions held three times a year on Mondays from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Hospital Medical Arts Building. Hospice of Greene County offers six-week sessions twice a year in Bloomfield.


Resolve Through Sharing (RTS) Bereavement Support Group

This self-help support group is for people who have experienced a miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, stillbirth, or newborn death. Second Monday of the month from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the Hospital Outpatient Surgery waiting area.


HIV/AIDS Bereavement Support Group

A safe place for family and friends to express the grief that is unique to AIDS and to exchange support with others.


Epilepsy Support Group

Support and information for families affected by epilepsy. Cosponsored by Hospital.


Parents' Outreach

Monthly support group for new parents. Meetings cover a variety of childcare and family issues.


Diabetes Support Group

Support and information for people with diabetes. Meets monthly at the Hospital Diabetes Care Center.
